Jaron:
Well, we got a call a few months ago from Judy, the mother of one of our previous brides. We'd had a lot of fun with Judy & her family at the beautiful Christmas-time wedding of her gorgeous daughter Stacy. Stacy's younger brother Chris was one of the ushers, and was a junior in high school at the time. After the wedding photos were wrapped up, Judy called us to tell us she wanted us to do Chris' Senior session a few months down the road. Great! So a few months came and went, and sure enough, she called us to set up a session. Judy is so affable, and we always end up chatting for quite a while on the phone about what the family is up to and how the kids are. Stacy is in the UK now with her husband Matt, which sounds like so much fun. Seems like every time we talk to them, they've been to some new part of the world. Anyway...
So Chris loves the Steampunk scene. Steampunk, you ask? I didn't know what it was either. So here's the breakdown. Imagine the movie The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Imagine the era of steam power - sort of a Victorian England time, but toss in a little of todays technology such as computers (albeit steam-powered ones). It's a victorian science fiction, if you will. Pretty cool. So we wanted to incorporate a bit of a victorian/industrial feel to the photos. Except where do you find anything steam powered anymore? The only thing I could think of was an old train engine - and the only place you can find steam engines these days are in museums. Ahhh, and Richmond has one! Love Richmond! In the backyard of the science museum downtown is an old, black steam engine. We went and did some shots there, then wandered around to see what else we could find. Richmond isn't exactly victorian, but it's got a lot of history and a lot of old buildings in the Fan. We grabbed the trains shots, and got a lot of other cool stuff too - and closed with the necessary evil "yearbook" shots (mine and Chris' idea of hell... booooring. We knocked those out in literally 15 seconds).
So here's the shoot. I wasn't going to post the whole slideshow, but we were so happy with how they turned out that we decided to anyway. Thanks a lot Chris! Glad we could work together. Hope you enjoy them!
